Gurdjieff, The 4th Way & the Movements

The Movements of The Fourth Way

The Movements facilitate inner growth by assisting in the balance of the inner and outer aspects of ourselves.  The physical discipline of the movement and rhythmic forms help align the energy systems of the human machine, but the essential ingredient has to do with the integration of the internal exercises that proceed, with ‘split attention’, simultaneously with the outward manifestations.

Incidentally, the Movements can also increase the vibrancy of one’s health and overall well-being.  that is a natural by-product of this kind of discipline, and it has been seen that it is useful and necessary to have a well balanced and ‘finely tuned’ machine that will allow one to proceed with their inner work and optimal development. One might liken the Movements to an internally driven martial art in the “war against  sleep”,

This system is for those wishing to live more consciously:  to be ‘in the world, and not of it’.

Our primary Movements instructor began studies and practice in the Fourth Way tradition in the early 1970’s, and has taken responsibility for classes, workshops and demonstrations by students from 1977 to the present.

G.I. Gurdjieff

The ‘Fourth Way’  This system is based on the ideas and teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff, a Master of Spiritual Work, who is thought by many to have been one of the most influential conduits of Spiritual teachings in the western hemisphere during the twentieth century.  He traveled to “Inaccessible Monasteries” in the late 1800’s, and synthesized teachings from Tibet, India and the Middle East to formulate a method and system of enlightenment for “Seekers of The Truth” in the western cultural environments.  He established an institute in France that thrived in the 1920’s and he continued to influence questing minds throughout the troubled times of the upheavals and World Wars of the twentieth century.

There are many websites that will give you biographical information about this great man.
